Sex Please, We’re 60 Auditions

The Area Community Theatre will present Sex Please, We’re Sixty by Michael Parker and Susan Parker as their April adult comedy. Director, Sharon Larkin is eager to hold auditions on Tuesday, December 6 and Wednesday, December 7 from 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM both evenings in the theatre’s banquet room at 907 Kilbourn Ave. in Tomah.  Parts are available for four women and two men ages 45 – 80.
An American farce, Sex Please, We’re Sixty is set at the Rose Cottage Bed and Breakfast.  Owner, Mrs. Stancliffe is happy to host single women in her comfortable B & B.  Her neighbor, Bud Davis is even happier.  He considers himself “Bud the Stud” and the B & B a perfect place to impress the ladies.

As the show opens three single women guests check in; a romance novelist, a southern belle, and a researcher who has agreed to test Venusia – a new pill designed to increase menopausal women’s libidos. Henry Mitchell, the chemist who invented Venusia has been in love with Mrs. Stancliffe for many years, drops in to propose (again) and see how things are going with the research. Bud stops in to get reacquainted with a couple of the ladies and the fast paced action proceeds from there.

Performance dates for Sex Please, We’re Sixty will be April 20 – 23 and April 27 – 30. All evening performances will begin at 7:30 PM, while Sunday matinees will start at 2:00 PM.

CAST CHARACTERS:

BUD DAVIS – age 70 +; the next-door neighbor to Mrs. Stancliffes’ Rose Cottage Bed & Breakfast; weak, frail looking (the frailer the better), however, over the years, he has become renowned among the female guests as “Bud the Stud;” very elderly, somewhat infirm, chauvinistic, brazen, but likeable.
MRS. STANCLIFFE – age 60 +; the owner of Rose Cottage Bed & Breakfast; a severe woman both in dress and manner; pursued by her next door neighbor, Henry; sensible, practical, punctual, business like, menopausal, but finally radiant and sensuous.
HENRY MITCHELL – age 60+; a retired chemist and Mrs. Stancliffe’s “Gentleman Caller;” a mild mannered man who has proposed to Mrs. Stancliffe every afternoon for twenty years; has developed Venusia; eventually comes out of his shell.
VICTORIA AMBROSE – age 50+; a renowned author who writes steamy romantic novels; pines for romance in her personal life, but finds none; readily joins the plot to turn “Bud the Stud” into “Bud the Dud;” pretty, serious, intelligent, menopausal.
HILLARY HUDSON – age 50+; beautiful, well educated, articulate, and sophisticated in both manner and dress; old friend and co-worker of Henry’s,. who agrees to test the Venusia pills; elegant, charming, and menopausal.
CHARMAINE BEAUREGARD – age 50+; the quintessential southern belle; definitely here at Rose Cottage for Bud and becomes the leading light in the plot to tame him; voluptuous, out-going, gushing, demonstrative, menopausal.
