Area Community Theatre Director Rocky Shutter is looking for six talented actresses to play the parts of six strong Southern women in ACT’s February production of Robert Harling’s Steel Magnolias. Auditions are scheduled Monday- Wednesday, November 14, 15 and 16 beginning at 6:00 PM each evening in the theatre’s main floor meeting room November 14, 15 and 16 at 907 Kilbourn Ave. in Tomah. Parts are available for women ranging in age from mid-twenties to mid-sixties.
Set in Chinquapin, Louisiana in the 1980’s, Steel Magnolias is both a comedy and a drama as it tells the real life story of a woman (based on Harling’s sister) who is a type 1 diabetic and risks everything to give birth to her own child. The action takes place in Truvy’s beauty salon where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. The “regulars” share the message that women have an inner strength that is evident during good times as well as bad times.
Performance dates for Steel Magnolias will be Feb. 10-12, Feb. 17-19, and Feb. 24-26. All evening performances will begin at 7:30 PM while Sunday matinees will start at 2:00 PM. Tickets will be available on January 30, 2017 at the ACT box office or online at tickets.tomahact.com.
